Director of Sustainability - Build & Lead Your Own Division

Built Environment

City of London

Up to £110,000 + Benefits | 30 Days Annual Leave | Flexible Working | Equity Potential

I'm representing a highly respected, independently owned Building Services Consultancy known for its progressive approach to sustainability, MEP, and integrated design.
Founded nearly ten years ago, they have built a reputation as one of the best independent consultancies in the industry, with an outstanding staff retention rate and one of the best working cultures I've come across. The business is at a pivotal stage of strategic growth, and this role is crucial to that journey.

They are now looking for a Director of Sustainability to start, develop, and grow their own division, which could eventually operate as it's own P&L within the business. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to shape and lead a department from the ground up, influence the company's long-term sustainability strategy, and potentially become part of the equity-holding leadership team.

Beyond technical excellence, this role requires a passion for business development. You don't need to bring a book of clients, but you must have the drive to build relationships with clients, develop an order book, and just put yourself and the business out there for opportunity, be the face of sustainability for the business. The company will support you in securing work, but the ambition and desire must come from you. Successfully growing this division could open up opportunities for you within the business at equity level.

The Opportunity
* Establish and grow your own sustainability division within a highly regarded consultancy.
* Clear, structured progression to Directorship & potential equity based on divisional growth & success.
* Be a key player in the company's strategic expansion, allowing them to introduce new complementary disciplines alongside MEP and sustainability.
* Lead the company's approach to sustainable building design, net-zero strategies, and environmental compliance.

What's on Offer?
* A career-defining opportunity to build and lead a new division.
* A 90% staff retention rate - people love working here.
* A growing team of 26+ engineers across three UK offices.
* 30 days annual leave + bank holidays (and no weekly timesheets!).
* £300 yearly sports membership allowance.
* Flexible hybrid working policy.
* Exposure to a variety of high-profile projects across commercial, education, and government sectors.

Who We're Looking For
* A proven sustainability leader with experience in net-zero, energy efficiency, and environmental design strategies.
* A track record of business development or a strong desire to build relationships, put yourself and the business out there, and grow a team.
* The ability to develop and lead a team, mentoring junior engineers and shaping the company's sustainability offering.

This role is ideal for an ambitious, entrepreneurial leader looking to make their mark in the industry. If you're passionate about sustainability and want the freedom to grow a division in your vision, this is the opportunity you've been waiting for.

Apply today to discuss your next career move. I'd be happy to arrange a call or a coffee to talk through the opportunity in more detail.
